College can be stressful and produce a lot of uncertainties about classes and the future. That’s why is finding new Virtual Pen Pals that gives students the opportunity to reach out to upperclassmen and graduate students with any questions or advice they might have or need. Rina :"Hello. I'm Rina. I hope to have pen pals for help me learn English. Let's be friends"
Mara :"Hi Rina, my name is Mara. I hope I can teach yo how to speak English and become good friends."
Rina :"Let's introduce each other!"
Mara :"Okay do you want to start first or do you want me to start?"
Rina :"You to first start"
Mara :"Okay my name is Mara. I'm 18 years and I live in Hawaii, Maui. I love to bake and going beach during my free time. "
Rina :"My name is Rina. I'm 19 years old. I live in Jawa Timur, Indonesia. I like to reading and watch film and watch YouTube. Where is your school?"
Mara :"I already finish going to school but now I'm in college"
Rina :"What's your major in college?"
Mara :"I'm a Business Major but I hope your okay with me fixing your grammar. I know you want to learn English and I want to help you anyway possible. Are you still in school?"
Rina :"Thank you for fixing my grammar. I'm in second years in university. I'm a Math Major"
Mara :"You welcome, I suck at Math that's all I have to tell you."
Rina :"But I suck at English"
Mara :"It's okay we can help each other"
Rina :"Who is your idol?"
Mara :"That's a good question but I don't really know. I like many idols but I don't know who's my favorite because they all taught me a lot of things. I like listening different types of music, maybe that's why I don't know who's my idol just yet. Do you have an idol?"
Rina :"Oh yeah, before pandemic I don't know who is my idol. But after seeing RM BTS in Korea show named 'Problematic Man', I watched a lot of video BTS"
Mara :"You like listening to kpop?"
Rina :"I don't like to listen to kpop anymore. I don't know why am I seeing BTS but I don't like to listen kpop anymore but only to the title song BTS 'ON'."
Mara :"Oh so you don't like kpop. I though you were an Army. I like BTS too & I was 10 when first stared listening to them."
Rina :"Do you have part time job?"
Mara :"I have a part time. I work at a restaurant. Do you have a part time job?"
Rina :"I don't have a part time job. In my city it's difficult for college student to apply for a part time job."
Mara :"Why is difficult in your city for college student to get a part time job?"
Rina :"Because many restaurant or shops that require prospective employees who do not go to college. One of jobs that college students can take is a salesperson. How you divide your study time and part time work?"
Mara :"Oh i see you only go to school."
Rina :"Yes, it is. I salute people who study while working part time."
Mara :"I would go to school in the mornings and in the afternoon around 3:00 pm is when start working. After I'm done working I would go home do my homework, project, and notes that i did in school. Most of my classes are online because of the Pandemic so i just school at home. thank you"
Rina :"Is the pandemic affecting your part time job?"
Mara :"No, it's school, it's hard to go back to school because they want you to get the vaccination for you able to go on campus."
Rina :"What's time do you come home from work? "
Mara :"At 9 pm. I go to school from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm"
Rina :"Even though i've been vaccinated, my campus hasn't allowed us to go face-to-face. While some others schools have started to meet face-to-face."
Mara :"Yes my little cousins are in elementary and they go to school everyday as long they wear a mask and aren't sick. It's just more harder for me because I'm now in college and they're really strict about the COVID- 19."
Rina :"My classes schedule is not the same everyday. Sometimes 7:00 am to 12:00 pm or 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. What's your study schedule for everyday"
Mara :"I would do a little bit of study before I go to work 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm and when I'm done with work, I would everything I need to do before going to bed like shower, brush my teeth, eat dinner. So I would be done with all of those things by 10 pm. so I start studying again from 10 pm to 12:30 am. Then go to sleep right after. Do you go to school everyday?"
Rina :"No, I don't. I go to school at Monday to Friday. Where is your campus?"
Mara :"it's like 10 minutes away from my house. When I'm at my grandma's house, I can just walk to campus because it's close by her house."
Rina :"What's your parents jobs?"
Mara :"My dad is a Baker and my mom is a Cashier for a local grocery store we have on Maui. What about yours?"
Rina :"My father is a farmer and my mother is a house wife."
Mara :"Do you have any siblings?"
Rina :"No, I'm an only child. And you?"
Mara :"I have two younger brothers. How is like to be the only child?"
Rina :"I feel happy and sometimes lonely..lol.. What's your grandma's address at USA?"
Mara :"111 Kahului Beach Rd."
Rina :"Is this in USA?"
Mara :"Yes, it's okay don't be sad, because you made a new friend:)"
Rina :"Oh, thanks you to ready to be my pen pal. Isn't it your time to study now? Sorry if I interrupt your study time"
Mara :"Sure I can be your pen pal but it's okay. I already studied earlier because I didn't have to go to work because it's my day off. it's okay your fine, you don't have to be sorry it's okay:)"
Rina :"Thank you"
Mara :"Your welcome but how does pen pals work. I haven't never had a pen pal?"
Rina :"Pen pal connect to each other online or send letters by post like this. Did you study at harvard university or Standford or which university? "
Mara :"Oh those schools are really hard to get in and it's really expensive too but I just go the University of Hawaii Maui College. Oh I see so we're pen pal"
Rina :"Yes, actually I want to send you handwritten letters and postcards, but I don't have money to send them. It must be nice to get a letter from Hawaii"
Mara :"We should do that and it would be nice to have written letters too. I would like to send you letters and postcards too. What's your address?"
Rina :"RT.1 RW.4 Mawar Street Kolak Wonorejo Village, Ngadiluwih District, Kediri Regency, East Java Province, Indonesia. I'm a little confused writing the address in English"
Mara :"it's okay but this is my address. 76 Aoloa Loop, Kahului, HI, 96732"
Rina :"There is a difference in writing the address in my country and abroad"
Mara :"Yes I just noticed. Yours is longer yet mines is shorter."
Rina :"it's really to be nice, but i don't have money to send them to Hawaii"
Mara :"it's okay. i don't have money either but I do get I send you a postcard or letter. Most of the money I earn are for college classes."
Rina :"I'm so glad to hear you'd like to send letters and postcards. Wow great, you paid for some of the tuition with your own money."
Mara :"Yeah it's really expensive so me & my parents help pay for my college tuition. It's was great talking to you. Your English skills are good already just a little bit of grammar errors but it's fine. I have to go to sleep now because it's getting late but let's talk again tomorrow, good night:)"
Rina :"Yeah, we will talk again tomorrow. Good night Mara"

Mae :"Okay. It's a pleasure to help you 😊"
Rina :"Where are you from?"
Mae :"From the Philippines"
Rina :"I'm from Indonesia. Nice to meet you"
Mae :"Nice to meet you too. Oh, our country is neighbor"
Rina :"Oh yeah, What was you go to Bali, Indonesia?"
Mae :"No. I still not able to travel"
Rina :"You are English Major. I understand a little English. Sorry if my grammar is still wrong. What advice do you have for me who are just learning English?"
Mae :"You read English literature. Listen to English Songs, and movies or series"
Rina :"What's an ofw? Idk"
Mae :"Overseas Filipino Workers"
